Privacy

The Lantern Gala 2026 is not a real event. This site is a working demonstration of the Generosity Works fundraising platform, run by Generosity Works. Everything on it — the lots, the guests, the bids, the totals — is made up so that the software can be shown doing what it does.

It is still a real website, though, and if you sign up and bid you are still typing real things about yourself into it. So here is exactly what happens to them.

Please do not enter a real card

Payments here run in Stripe’s test mode. No card is ever charged and no money reaches anybody, which also means a real card number typed into this site achieves nothing at all. Use one of Stripe’s published test numbers instead — 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future expiry date, any three-digit code.

What we collect, and only when you give it

You can browse the whole demonstration without telling us anything. If you go further:

  • Creating an account stores your name and email address, because a bid has to belong to somebody.
  • Placing a bid stores the amount, the lot and the time, against your account.
  • Reaching the checkout stores a billing name and address, as any shop does. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach this server.
  • The server’s own logs record IP addresses and browser details, as every web server does, and are kept by our host for their own security purposes.

Emails

The demonstration sends the same emails a real event would: a confirmation when you bid, a note when somebody outbids you, and a payment request if you win. They go only to the address on your account, and only about your own activity here. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not sell or share anything with anybody.

The site keeps a log of what it has sent — who it went to, the subject, and when — so that “I never got an email” can be answered. It never keeps the contents of a message.

How long any of it lasts

This is a demonstration site and its data is cleared periodically. Nothing here is kept as a record of anything, because none of it records anything real.

Cookies

Two kinds, both necessary: one keeps you logged in, and one remembers what is in your basket. There is no advertising, no tracking across other websites, and no analytics profiling of individuals.

Asking us to delete it

Email hello@generosityworks.co.uk and we will remove your account and everything attached to it. You can also ask for a copy of what is held. We do not need a reason and there is nothing to argue about — it is demonstration data.

Who to contact

Generosity Works — hello@generosityworks.co.uk

If a charity runs a real event on this platform, that charity is the data controller for its own event and publishes its own privacy notice. This one covers the demonstration site only.
